Graduate Tracer Study

Possibly one of the only institutions to conduct tracer studies in the countries that we operate, Botho University continues to lead by example and ensuring employability is a strategic goal achieved by data-driven decision. The institution has been conducting tracer studies regularly in its continued efforts to improve employability initiatives for its students and graduates.

In 2024, Botho University took this exercise a step further and under the guidance of the International Finance Corporation (IFC), conducted one its most comprehensive tracer studies. IFC offered training from global experts on how to conduct impactful and effective tracer studies to gauge graduate employability which is a key institutional KPI for Botho University. Over the course of several months, Botho University team members received dedicated training from IFC on all aspects of conducting a large scale tracer study. Botho University received one-on- one mentoring, coaching and guidance from experts from all over the world brought in by the IFC team to underline the importance of such an exercise and why such studies are crucial to the success of some of the top universities in the world.

The 2024 Botho University graduate tracer study was a comprehensive large-scale effort that included graduates who completed between 2019 and 2023 from our campuses in Botswana, Lesotho and the Blended and Distance Learning campus.

What are the benefits of Alumni participating in a Tracer Study? Key reasons include:

    • Because Alumni feedback matters as they have been consumers of the university educational programmes and associated services.
    • For enhancing existing initiatives targeting graduate employability and research which are hallmarks of all the leading universities globally.
    • Allowing Botho University to participate in international university ranking exercises to ensure visibility to the impactful work that the university is doing as a pan-african, quality higher education provider.

This tracer study with the guidance of IFC was successfully concluded in June 2024. It yielded rich insights from our alumni which will form the basis for curriculum development, academic research and continual improvements to the universities’ numerous employability initiatives. Botho University is committed to continue to this exercise annually given the immense value.
